Beelzebub (played by Mutsumi Tamura): He is the son of the king of demons who likes games and cars. A self-proclaimed "Villain of Evil", he plays pranks but never kills people as he has a pure heart. He possesses physical abilities incomparable to humans and unique even to demons.
Thief (played by Cho): --> He is Beelzebub's guardian, good at stealing and a constant source of information. He is aware of various things that happened in that of Sand Land. Slightly older than Beelzebub, Thief is surprisingly curious.
Rao (played by Kazuhiro Yamaji): He is an elderly sheriff and has a strong sense of justice. To save the people suffering from water scarcity, he embarks on a journey in search of the "Ghost Fountain" and for the cause he will ask Beelzebub for help.
General Are (played by Satoshi Tsuruoka): General of the army royal, second only to Grand General Zeu, is young and talented. He succeeded his father who died 30 years ago and became a soldier. He is so loyal and serious about his duties that he doesn't hold back when he has to admit his guilt.
General Zeu (played by Nobuo Tobita): He is the great and cunning army general, however he monopolized water and plotted various evil deeds. It seems that he and Rao share a mysterious past.

Akira Toriyama himself commented the creation of the work with the following words:
After the conclusion of Dragon Ball I experimented with self-contained one-shots and short works, to then finish to all my energies for a project that would lead me to the end of my career. This is how Sand Land was born. Although it consists of only one volume, now that I think about it, I am amazed how I managed to make this weekly series by myself without any assistant. I made this manga putting what I really like first (this is the author's trademark in Toriyama's own words, editor's note), so whoever has appreciated it means that they will have understood. Regarding the animated film, I have already seen a draft and knowing that a screen adaptation is on the way after 20 years is like a dream come true.
Regarding the idea of this completely different work from the previous ones, however, the author specified that although he prefers simple and carefree stories, with Sand Land he tried to be a little more serious. Finally, consider the tables with a graphic impact.
The Shueisha publishing house published the volume version of the manga in November 2000, while in Italy it was published by Star Comics in 2002.
Below we can discover the synopsis of the project:
In the distant future, where war has decimated creation, the Earth is inhabited exclusively by arid desert and the water supply is controlled by a greedy Ruler. In search of a coveted lake, Sheriff Rao asks the ruler of demons for help and gives him his son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. The unlikely trio set off into the desert facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest enemy of all, the King's own army!
Akira Toriyama launched his first series, Dr. Slump, in 1980, from which two animated series and movies arose. Subsequently, the author created the enormous success of Dragon Ball which still lives today under the title and adventures of Dragon Ball Super. The Japanese author is also known for having created the character design for the videogames Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger and Blue Dragon.
