The evolution of Bo-Katan Kryze in the Mandalorian 3
The awaited return of the Mando on Disney Plus has finally materialized with The Apostate, the first episode of The Mandalorian 3 in which the Mandalorian bounty hunter most loved by Star Wars fans embarks on a new adventure. Going beyond what was seen in previous seasons and in his quick but central appearance in The Book of Boba Fett, the Mando now seems destined to rediscover his Mandalorian roots, but this journey will not only affect Din Djarin, but also another figure of the Canon which has a strong connection to the mandalorian culture: Bo-Katan Kryze . A presence we're certain will have a major impact on the series, leading us to ask how Bo-Katan Kryze will evolve in The Mandalorian 3.
Katee Sackhoff reveals how Bo-Katan Kryze will evolve in The Mandalorian 3 ?
Initially appearing in The Clone Wars and later in Rebels , Bo-Katan Kryze has always intended to reform l unity of the Mandalorian clans, retrieving the legendary Darksaber. Conquered at the end of Rebels , the Darksaber was taken away from Bo-Katan in an even mysterious way by Moff Gideon, leading her to set out on his trail to retrieve the weapon, instead witnessing, as we saw in The Mandalorian 2 , the victory of Din Djarin in a fight with Gideon, thus conquering the Darksaber by right. This upheaval of the Mandalorian's plans was presented in the last episode of the second season of The Mandalorian , but if Din also starred in The Book of Boba Fett , Bo-Katan did not appear again until start of the new season of the adventures of the Mandalorian bounty hunter. A return that has been accompanied by a feeling of surrender, considering how in The Mandalorian 3 Bo-Katan Kryze seems to be far from the authority figure and power that we had previously seen.
A sensation that was also addressed by the interpreter of Bo-Katan, Katee Sackhoff , who during an interview with colleagues at Screen Rant revealed how the Mandalorian warrior finds himself facing a new challenge in his life after the events of the previous season of The Mandalorian:
I think he has lost everything, everything he ever wanted, everything he fought for so long, is disappeared. And it is at this point in her life that we find her again, in this 'all is lost' moment. I think he is wondering about everything he has done so far, since he met her about ten years ago, looking for a meaning for everything that has led her up to this point in her life
Recalling the long excursus narrative of Bo-Katan, the actress does not forget to remember how her character has evolved in an evident way since her first appearances, coming to show a different sensibility compared to the belligerent figure seen previously.
We wanted making an emotional journey for her this season, and for me that was really fun. I love complicated characters and I think her background is incredibly full of complications, some of her own making. I feel there are deep and heavy thoughts in her head and a desire for redemption in her mind.
Bo-Katan Kryze's personality in The Mandalorian 3 will therefore be one of the driving forces behind the new season of the series, but she will nonetheless be central to further defining Mandalorian culture. An ideological clash also between Bo-Katan and Din Djarin, who coming from two different clans are children of a different conception of the Creed.
Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) in Lucasfilm's THE MANDALORIAN, season three, exclusively on Disney+. ..2022 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. All Rights Reserved. The growth of Bo-Katan, therefore, will also be useful in defining the diversity of visions of the different Mandalorian clans that we will see in The Mandalorian 3. An important aspect for Sackhoff, who has gone from vocally interpreting Bo-Katan in the animated series to live action:
His growth, for me, was the most important part of the interpretal. If you look at where the character started and you look at her now, in this season's finale, it's like a story arc is ending. But that's all I can say for now, except that you'll see a lot of Mandalorians. It is evident from the trailer, and we know that these clans have different ideologies, and contrasts in this sense are bound to erupt
