Titled Drowning in the Shadow with numbering 6.5, the extension tells anecdotes never appeared in the manga written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura on Thorfinn, initially as a member of Askeladd's invaders, intent on assaulting men in the midst of a fight. Later Thorfinn himself, this time an adult, enters a nearby house while a family is huddled there.

The original manga author commented the extension of the episode thanking the studio of animation for being able to create his own ideas, we remember ever written in the manga, and to have animated them with great care.

Focused within the era of the Viking peoples of the 11th century, the series is produced at the animation studio MAPPA ( Chainsaw Man , Jujutsu Kaisen , Attack on Titan : Final Season ) for directing by Shuhei Yabuta and no longer by WIT Studio ( Attack on Titan ) officially began on January 9, 2023 . The  opening is performed by Anonymouz with the piece "River", while the ending is by LMYK with the piece "Without Love". In Italy, the series is available for one episode a week simultaneously with Japan on Netflix and Crunchyroll with  subtitles.

A new millennium begins , in the southern part of the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. After the death of his longtime enemy, Askeladd, Thorfinn has nothing left to live for. He had been bought by the lord of those lands, Ketil, as a "slave" to then be employed to work on his farm. Thorfinn meets a young man here, Einar, who is a slave just like him. Meeting Einar led Thorfinn to face the sins he's committed in the past and to start finding a new reason to live. Meanwhile Canute, who has become the king of England, tries to extend his dominion to found "the promised land". This is "The Story of a True Warrior (Saga)". “The Story of an Atonement and Redemption (Saga)” found after the prologue.

We remind you that the director has stated that he has in mind a complete adaptation of the manga although the latter is still in progress (but not far from the end).

The staff of the first season is reconfirmed to produce the new project:  Shuhei Yabuta (director in Attack on Titen 3D and Inuyashiki Last Hero) returns to  direct the project; Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish, Ajin: Demi-Human)  supervises the script of the series and writes it; Takahiko Abiru (Hunter x Hunter) returns to character design; Yutaka Yamada (Tokyo Ghoul, Donten ni Warau Gaiden: Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai) composes the music. Season 2 resumes the events narrated during the 1st season produced by Wit Studio.

Vinland Saga: manga, anime and a synopsis

Makoto Yukimura has been writing and drawing  Vinland Saga since 2005, initially through the pages of  Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine and then moving to Seinen magazine Afternoon . The series is set in Northern Europe at the beginning of the 11th century and is currently underway with 198 chapters and 26 tankobons active.

In Italy, the manga is published by  Star Comics.

The anime series was announced in  2018 and then aired in  2019 with the production of  Wit Studio and directed by Shuhei Yabuta . In Italy and in the rest of the world it is available through Amazon's streaming platform, Prime Video. The anime consists of 25 episodes and Season 2 began on January 9, 2023, this time by the animation studio MAPPA.
