Prey's inspiration is a cult of modern action movies
After a long wait, accompanied by a certain skepticism on the part of fans of the saga, the Yautja, the alien hunters made famous by Predator, are back in action with Prey. The new chapter of the franchise has left the big screen to migrate to the streaming of Disney +, which has made the film available to its subscribers since August 5. A change not only of medium but also of temporal placement, that of Prey, which in these hours, thanks to a statement by director Dan Trachtenberg, we discover to have been inspired by another popular action film: Prey was influenced by Mad Max: Fury Road.

Speaking with GamesRadar, Tracthenberg revealed how the centrality of the action in Prey derives from the inspiration of Mad Max Fury Road, which thanks to the excellent work of George Miller presented itself as a perfect example of a story with a strong adrenaline content but at the same time capable of being emotionally engaging:
“Several things pushed me in this direction. I was heavily inspired by Mad Max: Fury Road, which set the stage by saying 'You can make a film that is basically action and is still a great film'. I felt drawn to this challenge. Was I able to make a film that was all action, but also had something emotionally engaging? So I thought, 'Well, if you could take the dynamics of a hunting movie and put it in this movie, it could really have a heart'. And instead of seeing yet another story of someone who has to survive against the elements, if you pitted him against the most formidable of opponents? 'This is how all these components became the heart of the film ”

The new film in the Predator saga, Prey, was inspired by Mad Max: Fury Road
As we highlighted in our review of the new chapter of the Predator saga, unlike the previous films, the protagonist is a woman, the young Indian Naru (Amber Midthunder). The Comanche huntress is a novelty within the saga, which, contrary to what happened for example for Alien, has always had male main characters. It is therefore understandable to imagine that it was the figure of Furiosa that inspired the character of Naru, who despite going against the habits of her people manages to counteract an angry Yautja.Amber Midthunder as Naru in 20th Century Studios' PREY, exclusively on Hulu.
