Netflix chooses the Decameron as the new Bridgerton
After the great success of Bridgerton, a TV series produced by Shonda Rhimes, Netflix may have found its worthy successor. The streaming platform has in fact ordered the production of The Decameron, a series in eight episodes freely inspired by the Decameron, the famous collection of short stories by Giovanni Boccaccio as well as one of the masterpieces of Italian literature. It will be produced by Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black) and created by Kathleen Jordan (Teenage Bounty Hunters).
Returning to Bridgerton, however, of which a third and fourth season have already been confirmed, a Prequel about Queen Charlotte: She will follow her story as she is betrothed to the King of England against his will and must learn to adapt to a royal family which is not all she expected.
A Netflix series inspired by Boccaccio's Decameron is coming soon
The Decameron is set in 1348, when the black plague, the deadliest pandemic in human history that killed up to 200 million people, hit the city of Florence hard. A handful of nobles are invited to retire with their servants to a large villa in the Italian countryside and to await the plague with a lavish holiday. But when the social rules run out, what begins as a sexual adventure steeped in wine in the Tuscan hills turns into a real struggle for survival.
