Armor Wars was announced during the 2020 Inverstor Day, when Cheadle explained how, following the events of Avengers: Endgame, the series would explore the future of James Rhodes:
“I think the most interesting part is yet to come. I'm not sure if he has a clear idea of who Rhodes is other than his role, outside the Avengers bubble, or his friendship with Tony. And now we have a chance to discover all of this, it's an opportunity to reveal who he really is in my way before, with time expressly focused on Rhodey and his life, and hopefully aspects of his past, also by going to develop aspects of its future. Who knows how long Marvel's projects will continue, they seem endless, maybe we'll all die on set one day ”
