Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has arrived in Italian cinemas, finally allowing us to answer the thousand questions that have accompanied us in recent months, including leaks and hypotheses that, as usual, accompany the releases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the case of Stephen Strange's new adventures, this curiosity was the daughter of the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which the actions of an uninspired Strange had opened the doors of the multiverse to Marvel's heroes. Despite previous mentions to the multiverse and his appearance in the Loki finale, it is Strange's reckless spell that has brought the backbone of Phase Four of the MCU to the big screen. How will the Marvel Cinematic Universe change after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
Stephen Strange: the new hub of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Wanda: goodbye to the Scarlet Witch? Mutants and geniuses to conquer the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The Marvel Cinematic Universe after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessStephen Strange: the new hub of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
That Stephen Strange was the narrative cornerstone of the film was obvious, however it is interesting to note how the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have been central to redefining its importance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reliving his previous appearances, Strange was presented to us as an individual with great powers but never at the center of the great events, which have always focused on Iron Man, Captain America and the Avengers. Yet, on closer inspection, it is Strange who bears the greatest burden, on the moral level: knowing what will need to be done to achieve the goal. Even guiding a hero to death, knowingly. The legacy of Strange's previous appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is this sense of responsibility, also reaffirmed in his presence in Spider-Man: No Way Home. | ); }In the last cinematic chapter of Arrampicamuri it emerged how Strange, thanks to the lack of charismatic figures in the superheroic community, has become the cornerstone of these supermen with super problems. The adventure in the multiverse of Strange becomes a sort of therapy for the character of Benedict Cumberbatch, who through the acceptance of his choices and having the opportunity to see how in other dimensions his variants have taken other paths, understands how his choice of accepting responsibility for his role demands a price, which at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is understood and welcomed by Strange.
This essential step to more fully define Strange thus becomes a new genesis of the character . Without detracting from Doctor Strange, the character's debut film, it is Endgame, No Way Home and now Doctor Strange in the Folli's Multiverse that emotionally define the character. What emerged in Raimi's film is part of an evolution of the character that still requires small tweaks, which we will probably see in the next film dedicated to the Sorcerer Supreme, also useful for definitively clarifying the role of Strange in the Multvierso of Madness. Orphaned of key figures like Iron Man and Captain America, the MCU needs to have a new point of reference, and Strange has all the characteristics for this role.
So what awaits Strange in the future? His pivotal role in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would benefit from at least one other adventure focused on his rise to star character, before dropping him into a collegiate dynamic. Certainly, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness showed Strange how to lose some of his arrogance, learning to give control to others and finding value in interacting with others. A progression towards a greater acceptance of relationships with other characters that could prove fundamental not only to lead him to interact with the Avengers, but which could be a launching point for other formations of the Marvel Universe, such as Defenders and Sons of Midnight.
Appearing for the first time in Strange Tales # 126 in 1964, Clea was originally conceived by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko as the daughter of one of Dormammau's main servants. In the first meeting with Strange, she Clea was a prisoner of Dormammu, but only later was it revealed that she was actually the daughter of Umar, sister of Dormammu, and of the prince Orini of the Mhruuk. Considered the fruit of a forbidden relationship, Clea was denied by her mother, who did not hesitate later, like Dormammu, to use her as a weapon against her Strange, who immediately showed a certain interest in her young woman. In the comics, Clea initially does not seem to trust the Sorcerer Supreme, but it will be after the latter agrees to help Dormammu stop the invasion of the Senzamente in exchange for the release of Clea, that between the two is born one of the most symbolic loves of the House of Ideas. In the post-credit scene, we see Clea breaking into Strange's life asking for his help to stop a Raid, that is, two colliding realities.
It could be the Senzamente invasion, covertly signaled also in the manifesto of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where the two skeletons in the position of the famous Thinker by Rodin recall the physiognomy of the Senzamente. The Raid Clea refers to could also be an action by Kang the Conqueror, the announced villain of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The presence of the dangerous time traveler is at the heart of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but the repercussions of his actions will be evident in the rest of the films as well.
Wanda: Goodbye to the Scarlet Witch?
Seeing Doctor Strange's ending in the Multiverse of Madness, one has the feeling that Wanda has completed her journey within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A tormented soul since her first appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda is one of the most tragic figures in the MCU, a focal point of strong emotions that culminated in WandaVision, the first series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Acceptance of loss, grief processing and self-definition were central to the series, and the aftermath of this dramatic journey of his played a central role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After having wondered for a long time what the role of the Scarlet Witch was, we finally discovered that Wanda has succumbed to her desperation, trying to overcome the limits of fate in order to be reunited with her children. Curiously, it is in this moment of profound desperation that we witness her story of her magical ascent, which is told by reconstructing some passages from her cartoon past, such as Mount Wundagore and the presence of the cult of Chton. The final epilogue of her personal drama, culminating in the acceptance of an unfortunate fate, is heartbreaking, but ultimately leads the woman to choose to make a last sacrifice in the name of a greater good.
Difficult to understand how this is his apparent death will change the set-up of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The loss of another charismatic female figure, after the farewell to Black Widow, could be a severe blow for the MCU, which is preparing to welcome new female faces, however, such as She-Hulk. Wanda's presence would still be an important asset for the MCU, especially considered as it was the only one that could hold its own against Strange.
However, it is not to be ignored how the arrival of Charlize Theron's Clea can be a more than valid substitute for Scarlet Witch in this sense
Mutants and geniuses to conquer the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
It goes without saying: the scene with the Illuminati was a real pleasure for Marvel Fan. The presence of such a host of multiverse heroes has not only tore some smiles, but has prompted fans to launch into hopeful hypotheses. The presence of Anson Mount again in the role of Black Blot is attributable to the simple role of homage to one of the least successful series in the Marvelian world (Inhumans), and equally can be seen in the return of Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier as a tribute to his beloved. interpretation of the English actor in the X-Men film saga. The presence of Xavier, however, is an indication of how mutants have now been integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When Wanda and Pietro were introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, their mutant natures had been rewritten due to the rights issue, still held by Fox at the time. With the acquisition of the latter by Disney, this constraint has now been overcome, a reason that now allows Marvel Studios to have access to the mutant universe. Reviewing Xavier was certainly a pleasure, but the main legacy of this cameo is knowing that now there are no more constraints that prevent the arrival of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speech that also applies to John Krasinski's Reed Richards. The actor has long been associated with the leader of the Fantastic Four, a symbolic formation of the Marvel Universe whose entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already in the works. The presence of Krasinski in this role, however, should not be taken as a confirmation of his return in the film dedicated to the Fantastic Family, considering that in Loki we have seen how different variants of the same character can exist that are profoundly different from them. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has presented us with several similar Stranges, it is true, but this should not be considered as an axiom of the multiverse.
Krasinski's performance, however brief, has shown how the actor is a perfect Reed Richards, giving life to a mature Gommolo capable of transmitting an aura of competence and humanity. For fans, this would be enough to confirm the actor, hoping that Krasinski's wife, Emily Blunt, agrees to play Mrs. Richards, Susan Storm, aka the Invisible Woman. In the past, Blunt has not shown particular interest in the world of cinecomics, but she has never hidden that the presence of a plot that enhances her possible character could convince her to evaluate an offer in this sense.
