Gran Turismo 7 was released everywhere, except in Russia
Gran Turismo 7 was released everywhere
Today is day one of Gran Turismo 7 (find our review here), but not for everyone. In fact, Russian players cannot, at least for now, purchase the digital version of the new PolyPhony Digital racing game: Sony has in fact decided to remove the title from the PlayStation Store, both for PS4 and PS5.Gran Turismo 7 The reasons for this choice have not yet been stated by Sony, but according to Eurogamer it was a last-minute decision, probably taken overnight. In fact, an official statement on the removal of Gran Turismo 7 from the PlayStation stores is still missing and Eurogamer's colleagues have not yet been able to speak directly with the publisher. However, all this seems to be due to the pressure of a Ukrainian government minister, who asked Xbox and PlayStation to stop support for Russian players, obviously in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
if (jQuery ( "# crm_srl-th_gamedivision_d_mh2_1"). is (": visible")) {console.log ("Edinet ADV adding zone: tag crm_srl-th_gamedivision_d_mh2_1 slot id: th_gamedivision_d_mh2"); } On the other hand, it would not be the first time. In this first week of the war, many companies have in fact taken some rather important decisions to take sides against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Blooper Team and CD Projekt RED have removed their games from sale in Russia and Belarus, while other teams have decided to donate funds to the Red Cross and other organizations involved in assisting civilians. Steam would also be blocking some transactions in the two countries, but there is not enough confirmation on this.
At the moment it seems that Gran Turismo 7 is not on sale in Russia only in its digital version. Physical copies in fact should still be in circulation, but Sony could announce any changes during the day today, perhaps formalizing the reasons that led it not to sell the digital version of the title. Gran Turismo 7 Seemingly Suspended from Release in Russia
As of right now, Gran Turismo 7 is unavailable to purchase in Russia.
Spotted by Eurogamer, the Russian PlayStation website has no fixed release date for the just-released sim racer. It's currently available worldwide everywhere on PS5 and PS4, with the exception of Russia, where the release date is 'pending confirmation'.
This follows Ukraine's call to both Sony and Microsoft to suspend their gaming services in Russia and Belarus amid the heat of the ongoing conflict. Eurogamer's Tom Phillips reports that Sony has yet to respond to requests for comment on the situation. There's no way of knowing whether the suspension of GT7's Russian release is in response to Ukraine's plea, but it certainly seems that way.
Sony has also done this on the quiet, not making any formal announcements about withholding its games from launching in Russia or Belarus.
Other game publishers and developers have expressed their support of Ukraine; EA Sports is removing Russian teams from FIFA 22 and NHL 22, for example.
