Like a thunder, the 1: 1 scale replica of the Stormbreaker, made by Hasbro for their Marvel Legends Role Play line, has arrived in the editorial office. After having put his hand, a short time ago, to the beautiful stealth shield of Captain America (here you can find the review) we find out together if this last release starring the new weapon of Thor appeared for the first time in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame is lived up to expectations. The assumptions are quite interesting: in addition to a really attractive packaging, Hasbro Stormbreaker is equipped with lights and sounds taken directly from the film.

Avengers Infinity War / Endgame

After the destruction of Miolnir on Hela's part in Thor Ragnarok, Thor in order to defeat Thanos (during the events of Avengers Infinity War) traveled to Nidavellir with Rocket and Groot to forge the Stormbreaker, a dwarven-made enchanted ax, forged by Uru. The mighty ax was designed by the dwarves of Nidavellir to be the greatest weapon in Asgard's history, designed for their king and capable of summoning the Bifrost Bridge on its own. Once they arrived at their destination, the three found the forges cold and sterile, littered with broken parts. The only dwarf that survived Thanos’s passage was Eitri, but his hands had been covered with metal following Thanos’s request for the creation of the Infinity Gauntlet.

To be able to defeat the Mad Titan, Thor needed a very powerful weapon, so Eitri decided to forge the Stormbreaker. With the help of Thor and Rocket, Eitri was able to open the cage around the star, rekindled the forge by melting Uru ingots and pouring them into a mold. Once the process was completed, the dwarf shattered the mold, revealing the blade and the weight of the ax, but lost the weapon handle. Seeing that Thor was close to death after undergoing the brunt of the neutron star's power, Groot decided to grab the pieces of glowing metal with one of his arms, then cut off the arm to serve as a handle, truly finishing off the Stormbreaker. Moments later the powerful weapon revived the God of Thunder, bringing the three to Earth in Wakanda to face Thanos' army.

The package

The Stormbreaker is delivered inside a massive rectangular package, on which we can see starting from the left side a fantastic close-up of the ax, the company logo and a image of Thor holding the devastating weapon in his hand. Moving on to the back, we can glimpse some more information, which explains what the particularities of the product are. Once the package is opened, we can already perceive the solid protection of the object, in fact, the two parts from which it is composed are wrapped in a layer of cellophane and harnessed inside a cardboard cage that protects them from accidental bumps and tossing.

Taking the Stormbreaker out of the package is a very simple operation even for the less experienced, just open the box on one of the two sides and slide the cardboard outwards. Once extracted, we can immediately see that the huge weapon is divided into two parts: the upper part of the ax / hammer and the long handle. The assembly operation is really very simple, in fact, the handle must be inserted only in one direction and once it reaches the end of the stroke, it is fixed with two screws (included in the package) so that the two parts remain firmly together. . All aspects of the film version have been faithfully reproduced, from the Asgardian lettering, to the branches intertwined to secure the handle with the top.

As anticipated, from the packaging, the Stormbreaker offers the possibility to light up. To do this, you need three stylus batteries, not included in the package, which are housed in a retractable compartment positioned in the upper part of the ax. We must congratulate the company, which in order not to spoil the appearance of the weapon has opted to insert the battery compartment behind a removable interlocking plate. After inserting the batteries, we can proudly admire the lighting effects, which we can appreciate both in normal conditions and in the dark where they give their best. Although it is a product made of PVC, the material conveys a sense of solidity that is not indifferent, accompanied by the well perceptible weight and holding this mighty weapon in the hand for a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a real pleasure.

The large size, the attention to detail and the non-prohibitive price make it a real Must Have for any fan of the Avengers world.
