Spiderwick Chronicles: what we know about live-action

Called a “modern coming-of-age story combined with an adventure fantasy ”, the Chronicles series Spiderwick starring concerned Jared (nine) and his book-loving twin Simon and their sister, Mallory (thirteen). Having moved with their mother to the old Victorian mansion of Spiderwick, they discover the existence of a brownie, a spiteful elf who lives in the walls, furious because they have unwittingly destroyed his "nest", and who targets them with jokes. Passing through an ancient lunch box, they find a mysterious library where a tome of magic is kept that reveals all the secrets of fairy beings and opens their eyes to the invisible and sometimes dangerous world inhabited by dragons, boggarts, phookas, fairies, spirits and goblins. around them.

We don't have a release window for the live-action adaptation yet, but Disney + has released the first sketches of the magical creatures:

The series created by DiTerlizzi and Black consisted of five books: The Book of Secrets (The Field Guide), The Magic Stone (The Seeing Stone), The Secret of Lucinda (Lucinda's Secret), The Tree of 'argento (The Ironwood Tree) and L'ira di Mulgarath (The Wrath of Mulgarath), released in 2004 and 2005 by Mondadori. The series was followed by a spin-off called The New World - Spiderwick. The Chronicles (Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles) which includes three books: The Nixie's Song, A Problem… giant! (A Giant Problem) and Il Re Drago (The Wyrm King), also published for Mondadori between 2009 and 2010.

In a 2008 interview Tony DiTerlizzi explained:

“Hol and I had received many letters from children telling us about their experiences with fairies, and I had been doing dragon and monster field guides since I was a kid, so we knew there was something magical there. And Holly knows that folklore so well. We thought it would be nice to tell a story about modern day kids pushed into the fairy kingdom. "

Holly Black added:

“When Tony and I first met, one of the things we talked about was fairy folklore, so this was the perfect project for we to do together. We like the idea that children can take the Field Guide and go to their gardens or parks to look for evidence of fairies. If they do, they will probably find them. "

So it was only a matter of time before a live-action Spiderwick Chronicles series also came to light. Other information was not disclosed, so we are awaiting. In the meantime, get the novel on Amazon!
