Playstation: Sony working on a new controller

Playstation

Sony has begun work on a new PlayStation controller, at least according to what emerges from a patent unearthed over the last few days. The difference, compared to other times, is that in this specific case it is not a device for consoles or PCs, but more of a system to be able to play on mobile, with different products and services and not only in the "classic way. ”.

The patent, released this week by the Japanese division of Sony Interactive Entertainment, describes the new PlayStation controller as a device for playing video games with two analog sticks. However, the photos, which can be viewed here, are quite explicit. It really is a controller for mobile, more similar to the DualShock for PS4 than the DualSense of PS5 and is practically identical to other mobile controllers, with the difference that the classic keys of the Japanese brand are present.

Now, there are several reasons why Sony decided to make this controller. In addition to the statements of Jim Ryan, who wanted to see some titles of the PlayStation world on mobile, much more likely everything was created to meet the needs of those who use the PS4 / PS5 Remote Play and who perhaps uses cloud gaming with Xbox. In short, we should not expect to see iOS or Android in addition to PC ports, or at least not in the immediate future: the main destination of this device is in fact, at least for now, those who use streaming services.

The controller is obviously still only a patent and exists exclusively in Sony's ideas. We do not know when production will begin, nor if it will ever go on the market. For now it is a project, yet another of the new PlayStation cycle, started with Jim Ryan and which will extend at least until the end of the PS5 generational cycle.

If you have PS5 at home you can't miss Returnal: the Housemarque masterpiece is available with a small discount on Amazon.
