Kojima Productions Opens New Division Dedicated to TV, Film, and Music
Hideo Kojima has never made any attempts to hide the fact that he is a massive movie buff, and his lifelong passion for making ambitious films has shown through in pretty much all the games he’s made as well. He and his company are soon taking a natural step forward and expanding into that medium- and a couple of others.
As recently announced (via GamesIndustry), Kojima Productions has launched a new division in Los Angeles that will be dedicated to film, TV, and music. The division is led by Riley Russell, a PlayStation veteran who spent nearly three decades at the company across various roles and positions.
Russel said: “The new division will be tasked with working with creative and talented professionals in television, music and film, as well as the more familiar games industry. The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them even more a part of our popular culture. Although we are a global organization, the new business development team will be centred in Los Angeles, CA. We are truly excited and looking forward to working with the very best entertainment talent we can, across all of the entertainment industries.”
Meanwhile, Kojima Productions’ business development manager Yoshiko Fukuda added: “Finding new ways to entertain, engage and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever changing storytelling world. Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond videogames and to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces.”
As for what Kojima Productions has got cooking where games are concerned, there isn’t a lot of clarity on that front right now. Leaks have strongly suggested that the studio is working on a cloud-based Xbox-exclusive game in partnership with Microsoft, and that that game will be based on an existing Xbox IP. Other leaks, meanwhile, have also suggested that Kojima Productions is working on a new PlayStation-exclusive Silent Hill game that is being funded by PlayStation.
