Mario Party Superstars: 5 things to know

Mario Party Superstars

In the era of online multiplayer we have repeatedly thought that there was no more space for side-by-side play on the sofa. Many producers have over time abandoned the splitscreen multiplayer, others have focused only on online, even giving up the single-player campaign. Still others have studied ways to share the gaming experience with a friend, but always and only through the internet.

In contrast to these realities, Nintendo has repeatedly set itself as a champion of local multiplayer, a standard-bearer of laughter in company and an apostle of friendships broken by a photo finish victory.

The Mario Party Superstars arrival on Switch is yet another demonstration of this. Presented at no less than E3 2021, the new party organized by Mario has today more than ever a different flavor. He knows of quality time spent together, he knows of fun, of laughter, of returning to a normalcy to which we are slowly getting used to. In this climate, the return to the past, to that first Mario Party in 1999 for Nintendo 64, is clear. But it is equally clear the desire to renew and renew itself, to introduce innovations that have long been required and that today, finally, seem to find the right space.

Have no idea what we are talking about? Well, then follow us as we tell you the 5 things to know about Mario Party Superstars.

The classic boards

A Mario Party Superstar board Mario Party Superstars does not betray its origins, quite the contrary. For the occasion, the chapter for Switch goes to fish out 5 classic boards of the original Mario Party for Nintendo 64. In detail they are: Tropical Island of Yoshi, Space Station, Peach's Birthday Cake, Wooded Forest and Land of Terror. All have been redesigned for the Nintendo Switch and each has their own unique events. Space Station, for example, sees Bowser's coin steal beam being activated, while Peach's Birthday Cake takes us through icing and flowers.

100 no-nonsense minigames

A Mario Party Superstar minigame After a few chapters able to exploit the characteristics of the Wii, Wii U and Switch motion controllers, Mario Party Superstars returns to look at the classic minigames taken from the titles for Nintendo 64 and Nintendo GameCube. Those where to win was the pure and simple ability with the front keys to understand.

There are over 100 minigames: Free for All, 2 vs 2, 1 vs 3 and Duel minigames; they come from virtually every chapter in the series and are all button compatible. So you can play with one or two Joy-Con controllers, with the Pro Controller or with the Switch Lite keys.

Among the novelties, Monte Minigames stands out, a challenge with minigames that offers seven different courses in total: Free Mode, Co-op Duo Match, Match Three, Sports and Puzzles, Survival, Coin Challenge and a Challenge of the Day.

Online and local multiplayer

Mario Party Superstar Could Ruin More Than One Friendship The strength of the series has always been to push local multiplayer, physically close to friends and family. Nintendo has been pushing this approach for years, strenuously, and today more than ever we need to have fun without giving up that sociability of contact and presence that we have missed so much in these two years.

The experience of this period, however, also showed us how technology can unite us in difficult times. This is why the online mode already seen in Super Mario Party also returns in this new chapter. In games with friends in board game mode, progress is saved at each turn, so you can take a break at any time and resume playing where you left off.

All modes support online multiplayer and stickers can be used to encourage or tease other players.

Confirmed characters

Some of the Mario Party Superstar characters are currently ten characters from the mushroom kingdom confirmed for the new Mario Party: Mario, of course, and then Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, Waluigi, Birdo, Rosalinda and Daisy.

In short, Mario Party Superstars promises to keep players happy and old. What do you think about it? Is there any element that excites you more than others? Tell us yours in the comments below.
