Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, new details on Kang the Conqueror
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Thanos may have disappeared with Avengers: Endgame, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe is far from over and many other iconic comic book villains remain. Among them is Kang the Conqueror who will show up in the MCU in 2023 with Jonathan Majors playing the villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.Comments from Paul Rudd and Jonathan Majors
Majors made his MCU debut in Loki, playing a character called He Who Remains, a variant of Kang. Loki's version of the character was playful and quirky, but there's a good chance his portrayal of Kang in the film is definitely different. In fact, work has recently begun on the new Ant-Man film and Majors is actively bringing Kang to life. Here, therefore, are the first words of Paul Rudd, the actor of Ant-Man, to Variety:“I have loved everything he has done, and I see what he is doing on this occasion, and I am stunned. It is really fun to bring new people into the family and the enthusiasm that people have is palpable ".
In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Kang will be determined to conquer time and space. The idea of variants, however, allows Majors to tap into multiple different roles while in reality he will only play one character.
During an interview, Majors talked about how he played the One Who Remains:
"I showed the archetype of the magician and what happens to him when he gets bored and becomes a cheat. I think when we meet the One Who Remains it is on the border of these two things. You don't really know where he is and I think the ambiguity of it is one of the most evil things. He Who Remains lived forever. One of the great things I got to experience with our costume designer is that every piece we decided on came from a different place. The cloak I was wearing was from the Victorian era. The shoes were by Genghis Khan. Mongolian pants, etc. You just have to mix and match them together and inform the character ”.
The actor, however, also talked about working with Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and the relationship with the Ant-Man family:
“Well, it's a different script written by different writers . We are also shooting it in a different country, so there is also this other element. And you know, the One Who Remains is in the world now, so we know so much about him. In Loki we saw 40 minutes of the character who helped me tell a story that now has another representation, another playing field with more players. It's no longer about the incredible Tom Hiddleston, but this time I'm dealing with Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly and the likes of the Ant-Man family. It's a completely different world ”.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will hit theaters in February 2023 and will be directed once again by Peyton Reed, who previously directed the first two films (which you can find on Amazon). br>
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Star Paul Rudd Praises Jonathan Majors as Kang
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is going to explore some interesting things in the multiverse and the quantum realm. We don’t know exactly what the story will entail, but with how the main villain was set up in Loki, with Kang the Conqueror, it’s exciting to think about the possibilities.
Jonathan Majors reprises his role as Kang in the movie, but he will be playing a very different version of the character. When talking about Majors’ performance in the role, Paul Rudd had nothing but praise. During an interview with Variety, he said:
'I've loved everything he's done, and I see what he's doing in this, and I'm knocked out by it. It is really fun to bring new people into the fold, and the enthusiasm that people have is palpable.'
Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are set to return and reprise their roles as Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne. They will also be joined by Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer, who will be back as Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. On top of that, Kathryn Newton will make her MCU debut as Scott Lang's daughter, Cassie Lang.
When previously talking about the third chapter in the Ant-Man franchise, director Peyton Reed teased what we can expect from the film in terms of its size, and explained that this next sequel is going to be much bigger than the first two films:
“There are some really exciting things in store, none of which I can speak to about right now. As is the Marvel way!
“I think the third Ant-Man movie is going to be…a much bigger, more sprawling movie than the first two. It’s going to have a very, very different visual template. And that’s all I will say.”
I’m excited to see what Marvel is planning for the story and how exactly it’s going to fit in with the events of the Loki series. It’s also going to be cool to see how it will progress the overall MCU phase 4 story arc.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on February 17, 2023.
