Born as a "model digital factory" to help the local production fabric return to efficiency and competitiveness after the 2008 crisis, Lef expanded in July with surfaces and equipment technology tripled (3 thousand square meters), becoming a "model digital company", that is "the most integrated digital innovation hub at world ".Multinationals, SMEs, managers, entrepreneurs and students can experience digital transformation in all aspects of the organization, no longer only as regards the 4.0 production lines, but throughout the entire chain of value: from the purchasing and design department to logistics and after-sales support. The organizational and digital consulting services provided by Lef based on the lean methodology, alongside the possibility of experimenting processes with enabling technologies, aimed at reducing waste and inefficiencies previously mapped case by case and with a view to returning value. The meticulous planning of the expansion works, implemented by Lef itself with a “digital control tower”, has made it possible to reduce the time required by 39%.
A technological “gymnasium” for companies, which can experiment with production machines with internet of things systems that process data on the line; advanced analytics to optimize energy input and product output parameters; integrated design and maintenance in augmented reality. The expansion introduced innovations at the "office" level: generative design with artificial intelligence, Ar / Vr visualizations and 3D printing, in the research and development sector; bots able to reduce the data collection times on potential customers and suppliers, for the sales office; platforms with 3D elements, for contact center video conferences. The training given by Lef to managers can allow them to become "evangelists" of change in their respective organizations, supporting them in setting up real internal academies.
Now Lef will be able to reach 500 realities and 6 thousand participants, 10 thousand if included those remotely. The only one of its kind in Italy, it is part of a network of nine McKinsey digital capability centers, collaborates with Smact Competence Center 4.0 and is connected to the Technological Pole of Pordenone, a Mise certified startup incubator. "Here we see how the factory becomes digital and the skills necessary to manage it are formed", explains Michelangelo Agrusti, president of Confindustria Alto Adriatico: "The digital transformation will not decrease the workforce but will qualify it and create new ones, also for this reason. Lef will be a place open to the educational system of the region, in an area with a high rate of youth employment ".
Lef intends to involve students, from the local faculties of Engineering or Economics and from higher technical institutes in accordance with the Region, in two-three-day programs to get their hands on digital transformation cases, program a robot or devise algorithms. It also collaborates with Generation Italy, a non-profit foundation created by McKinsey to help reduce unemployment, as part of a three-month course open to young people to train CNC machine operators 4.0. "Lef can involve all business units and profiles of every seniority because the goal is to always put the person at the center, combining his skills with the potential of technology in creating new value for the company and in devising new business models: the first requirement to start this path lies in the direct commitment of top management to embrace digital transformation ", concludes Cinzia Lacopeta, head of Lef for McKinsey.
