OnlyFans will prohibit sexually explicit content

The first to report this decision was Bloomberg to whom the company has reported that it is making changes due to of the pressure it has received from its banking partners and payment service providers.

"Starting October 1, 2021, OnlyFans will ban the publication of any content that contains sexually explicit behavior," the site said. "To ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform and to continue hosting an inclusive community of creators and fans - he continued - we need to evolve our content guidelines." Creators hosted by the site will still be able to post nude images as long as they comply with the site's policy.

Over the course of the pandemic OnlyFans has become increasingly popular as the adult video industry, like others, has disrupted its production. According to a BBC survey, the moderation of the platform has been very mild. The UK broadcaster wrote that it saw a manual within OnlyFans that instructed employees to give users three warnings before blocking them, even if the content that was removed was illegal. The most successful accounts, according to this survey, were managed by a separate team which gave them even more chances.

Porn on the platform has resulted in difficulties in attracting investors, however, according to Axios. Hence the need for a change and more stringent guidelines.

In general, it seems that OnlyFans wants to be increasingly accredited as a subscription platform that puts creatives in direct contact with a general public and no longer only interested in adult content.
