Kojima Productions: Xbox exclusive deal dry?
Kojima Productions
After an almost complete generation of consoles to be thrown on the wall, things finally seem to be on the up again for the American game giant Microsoft. The two new Xbox consoles, the Series X and S, the upcoming line-up of a total of 23 Xbox Game Studios and Game Pass, the beating heart of the team's future strategy, led by Phil Spencer, make for an extremely positive and promising picture. In addition, the takeover of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda (The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, Wolfenstein) caused quite a stir and is considered one of the biggest headlines of the 2020 game year. If you believe the words GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, who has been right in the past with leaks and rumors, will soon have the next bang.

Next Kojima game an Xbox exclusive?
The games studio "Kojima Productions" founded by Hideo Kojima has been an independent game developer since 2015, but before that the company was part of the large Konami family for almost ten years. Source: Kojima Productions The game company Kojima Productions, which has been independent since 2015 and founded by developer legend Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear, Death Stranding), has been in intensive negotiations with Microsoft for some time. Now there is apparently a milestone to be booked: According to Jeff Grubb, the two companies have signed a preliminary contract and are planning an Xbox-exclusive game with a strong cloud focus - similar to the technically impressive Microsoft Flight Simulator. In addition, claims the report from GamesBeat that Kim Swift (Left 4 Dead, Portal) has joined the Microsoft team, especially to actively support the upcoming Kojima project. Swift was chosen because she is an expert in the cloud and has already worked with Google on a number of Stadia games. Kojima has already reported a great deal of interest in "exploring the possibilities and potential of cloud gaming" in the past.

Of course, the deal has no impact on the other projects at Kojima Productions, such as the PS5-exclusive Director's Cut for Death Stranding. Also, there should not be a developed pitch for the upcoming project yet. What would you wish for an Xbox game from Kojima? Should it go again in the horror direction or would you look forward to something completely new? Write us your thoughts in the comments.

Hideo Kojima reportedly signs ‘letter of intent’ with Xbox
It’s being reported that Death Stranding director Hideo Kojima and Xbox may be one step closer to working on what could wind up to be a future game from the Metal Gear Solid creator.
According to VentureBeat, the two have signed a ‘letter of intent’ that says the two parties intend to work out the details on a publishing agreement for an as-yet-unannounced Xbox game. Citing “sources familiar with the matter” VentureBeat say while this isn’t a guarantee of such a game, it does mean that a partnership is on the table as lawyers for both sides work out the finer details.
Allegedly, the deal is close enough that Microsoft has already started the process of preparing resources that Kojima Productions will need to start work on the game. It’s claimed that last month’s hiring of former Portal lead Kim Swift to the Xbox Game Studio Publishing division is a part of these preparations.
It’s also worth noting that this deal apparently doesn’t prevent Kojima Productions from working with other companies, although likely not on the same game. This does make sense, what with Death Stranding: Director’s Cut still to come from Kojima’s studio later this year on the PlayStation 5.
It may be a while before we hear of anything coming from this too, as apparently the point of the partnership—VentureBeat says—is to “unlock the creativity of Kojima Productions using Microsoft’s technology as opposed to greenlighting a specific pitch.” Neither company has commented on the reports at the time of writing either, so take them with the required pinch of salt.
However, we do know Kojima Productions were hiring for people to work on a new project last October. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if these talks bear any fruit.
