Clubhouse is developing a text message chat
A chat function has been made available to some users and then quickly withdrawn in recent days
(photo: Unsplash) Clubhouse is developing a chat to allow its users to exchange text messages within the 'application. A feature that was not yet present in the audio room platform. The company appears to have accidentally disclosed such a messaging feature, called Backchannel, to some users late last week. The Clubhouse itself then hastily removed it, without providing further explanation.Wow looks like accidental update of @clubhouse enabled in app backchannel & switch of side bar & full experience.
Seems it's rolled back now but from what I saw it was beautiful !!

The Clubhouse CEO, Paul Davison, however, had previously mentioned the introduction of a chat of some kind. "I think there are so many people who do backchannel dm all the time, so many people who want to deepen friendships and relationships with people and do all sorts of other things - I think this is something we should have," he said. Davison.
Contacted by TechCruch, the company has not fully confirmed but not denied these rumors. "As part of our product development process, Clubhouse regularly reviews and tests potential features," an application spokesperson told TechCrunch. "These functions are sometimes part of the app, sometimes not". We don't even know yet if this chat allows for straight messages or is a more open group feature.
The road, however, seems to be marked. Greenroom, the Spotify app that largely imitates its Clubhouse or already has its own live text chat that users can access by scrolling directly into the app. It is one of the few - but significant - things that differentiate it from Clubhouse. As far as we could see, the Clubhouse Backchannel function will also be accessible via a scrolling window.
The run-up of many platforms such as Spotify and Facebook - with Live audio rooms - to offer their own product similar to Clubhouse it will probably also push the app that pioneered this sector to change and introduce new functions to improve and enrich the user experience.
Reddit has also entered the audio market with Reddit Talk, in addition to Twitter that launched Spaces. LinkedIn and Slack are also reportedly working on their own versions of an audio product. Meanwhile, downloads and attention around the Clubhouse itself have dropped significantly. The prerequisites all seem to be there for some change. To find out if the chat for private messages will be the first, we will just have to wait some time.
