Announced a few months ago, Swords of Legends Online (SOLO) will finally debut in the West. In fact, one of the most famous oriental MMORPGs will arrive in the course of summer 2021 in a remastered version and will finally immerse fans in the epic vision of the clash between Light and Dark that Wangyuan Shengtang & Aurogon have created. We had the opportunity to spend a few hours in the company of the game in what was an alpha test of the game and therefore we are ready to offer you our opinion on Swords of Legends Online in our tried.The eternal struggle between good and evil
Sword of Legends Online: action and reflection An ancient evil returning from the limbo in which he was imprisoned, an ancestral sword capable of dominating the darkness and "wounding the gods", a chosen hero who will eradicate everything that endangers the good of humanity. The narrative incipit is certainly not a revolution, yet in all these years SOLO has managed to offer his version of the eternal struggle between good and evil, capable of thrilling many oriental players but also many others who across the ocean they were eagerly awaiting a possible landing in the west of the title.Since our first steps in the game, we have understood why at a narrative level in recent years Swords of Legends Online has been given a lot of importance. The title that will be published by Gameforge accompanies the player in the plot through well-orchestrated cutscenes and a series of well-characterized NPCs that delve into every little corner of the narrative. Clearly the alpha was a backward build in this sense, but in the final game the texts and voices will both be in English with the promise of the developers that everything will be meticulously cared for so as not to leave anything for free interpretation.
A dance of skill and swords
Swords of Legends Online: The Spellcaster in action Speaking instead of the gameplay. SOLO offers a classic approach to the world of MMORPGs, an action-packed approach, but extremely based on the customization of the gameplay through skills, combos and mastery. Each class (6 in total): Bard, Incantaspade, Summoner, Lancer, Berserker and Reaper, has in fact two masteries in which it is possible to specialize and each guarantees a different approach to battle and a different progression.The masteries are not only differentiated on a practical level: the Spellcaster for example has a mastery focused on melee combat and one on ranged combat, but they are also different on a conceptual level: the bard, to name one, has a mastery of pure healer and a from hybrid dps. The conceptual differentiation of mastery is a very important element in an MMO of this genre. This choice in fact guarantees the possibility for players to face many contents alone without worrying about being limited by the absence of companions. Leaving the class schemes, which can be deepened in their entirety only in the final build, we find ourselves telling you about our experience with combat.
Swords of Legends Online: the Berserker in combat Swords of Legends Online is an MMORPG extremely focused on movement, much more than in other exponents of the genre the continuous movement in battle will be essential. The enemies have complex patterns, rich in special effects but also very practical. The extreme mobility of the characters will be one of the keystones to understand, assimilate and master as soon as possible. To give you an idea, SOLO allows you to walk and run on water if you want and to float in mid-air. This last element, without too many spoilers, also serves to reach the cities above the clouds (maybe even your home) and manage the verticality that is very present in the game world.
Not only that, but the presence of immense flying mounts is one of the peculiarities of SOLO. This mobility, therefore, is well linked with the skills learned during our test and the possibility of creating a lot of scene on the screen. But what is important to underline is that the feeling guaranteed by the combat system is much more classic and practical, more like a World of Warcraft than a Black Desert Online. Speed, action and mobility, but also synergies and strategy. Understanding how to create combos by chaining a sequence of skills will be fundamental to maximizing the action and also thinking about the best equipment and the most effective passives will be important.
Sword of Legends Online: The Summoner in action As for the playful offer, Sword of Legends Online offers a very respectable story and endgame. As you can already see from the eastern counterpart already available, the contents are massive and rich in variety if the story is designed for all types of players, in the endgame we also have content designed exclusively for large groups such as multiplayer dungeons or raids to 20 players. PvP is also present in the game, but unfortunately it was not the subject of our test. Not just action, SOLO is also an excellent concentrate of possibilities which for some are just trinkets and for others, essential points. One of these is the so-called "housing". In SOLO you can buy houses, customize them and even make a nice outing in the clouds for your mount. All this leaving the player great space for his imagination and inspiration.
Technical level
Swords of Legends Online: the setting Finally, the technical level. Although as we have anticipated, we will have to wait for the complete release to have an excellent level of audiovisual localization, on a technical level the remaster is of a high level. The game does not feature uber pumped graphics as you might think, but it offers excellent handling of special effects in a refined and classy setting. Respect for Chinese folklore is combined in a sinuous and coherent way with fantasy elements and offers inspiring, captivating and beautiful scenarios to explore. Even the models of monsters and characters are really well done with a meticulous attention to detail in the characterization of the equipment. Two other points in favor of the playful experience offered by SOLO are the care in the sound with ambient audio and incredibly inspired music and able to perfectly accompany the moments shown on the screen, but also the stability. Our test gave us a granite title even when we were in the midst of many other people.Sword of Legends Online is a title that holds a particular charm for all lovers of the MMO genre. The test carried out fully satisfied us: from a technical and playful point of view. The game is layered, varied and full of solutions. From romances to companions and from the experience for lone wolves to clans ready to face 20-person raids. Everyone will have bread for their teeth. The only doubts that grip us is whether the title will be able to break the barrier that the MMO genre has created in the West due to some imperfect transpositions of previous titles from the East.
