Change the CEO of ByteDance, air of news for TikTok?
Change the CEO of ByteDance
The CEO and co-founder of ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, has decided to give up his role at the helm of the company after several years of success that have led the Chinese social network to become the largest startup success to the world. What will happen to Zhang Yiming and who will take his place?
Zhang Yiming has decided to leave his position as CEO of one of the most famous companies in the world and has done so with a long internal letter to the company which was then made public on the ByteDance blog. Zhang reflected on his stance and how he feels he would be more effective in another role. “I'm afraid I still rely too much on the ideas I had before starting the company and haven't challenged myself by updating those concepts,” he said.
“I think someone else can better guide progress through areas like better day-to-day management ”he continued. “The truth is that I lack some of the skills that make an ideal manager. I am more interested in analyzing organizational and market principles, and in exploiting these theories to further reduce management work, rather than actually managing people. Likewise, I'm not very social, preferring solitary activities such as being online, reading, listening to music and daydreaming about what might be possible. "
Taking over from Zhang at the helm of the company with the role of CEO will take care of another of the personalities who helped the founding of the company in 2012, Liang Rubo, who at the time was in the role of human resources management (HR) for ByteDance.
The transition will take place gradually over a six-month period, during which Zhang will pass the scepter to his colleague and serve the company in his new position. Zhang's new role will focus on “long-term strategy, corporate culture and social responsibility,” according to the company.
This change should in no way impact TikTok's day-to-day operations which, on the contrary, could be hit by a new wave of fresh ideas thanks to the takeover of ByteDance and the arrival of the new CFO Chew Shouzi, who left Xiaomi in March to start a new adventure.
