The Batman: Barry Keoghan reveals his role?

Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Eternals) posted a photo from the set of The Batman on his official twitter account, confirming the role he will play in the film, that of Gotham City Police Department agent Stanley Merkel.



Originally created by Frank Miller in his Return of the Dark Knight, Stanley Merkel was inducted into the official continuity of the Batman comics as one of Jim Gordon's first partners. However, being also one of Gotham's honest cops, he was one of the victims of the Hanged Man or the serial killer protagonist of the seminal Batman - Dark Victory, sequel to Batman - The Long Halloween

The Film

The Batman is currently expected in theaters on March 4, 2022.



Director Matt Reeves had confirmed during last August's DC FanDome that just 25% of The Batman had been shot while showing a trailer that had excited fans and destroyed viewing records.

Speaking of The Batman, Matt Reeves has confirmed that while the events of the film unfold in the second year of activity of Bruce Wayne as Batman, played as we all know by Robert Pattinson, the TV series, still without a title, it will take place during B's first year of activity atman.

The protagonist of the series will be a policeman who comes from a family that for generations has produced cops for Gotham City. The director stressed that also for the TV series the common thread, thematically speaking, will be corruption and therefore we will see how the Police Department will experience the arrival of a vigilante in the city. It has not been specified whether the protagonist cop will line up with Batman or be forced to escape from them.

Reeves then explained how corruption in Gotham is a worm that afflicts the whole system and for this reason the common people will welcome the exploits of Batman in an ambivalent way.

For The Batman of which Reeves has pitted some interesting sources of inspiration both from cinema and comics.

The director has in fact cited 3 great crime classics of the 70s: Chinatown, Taxi Driver and The French Connection. Even more interesting, and above all absolutely not obvious, is the comic quoted by the director: Ego by Darwyn Cooke.

The spin-off TV series

During last August's DC FanDome, director Matt Reeves not only showed the first fantastic trailer of his The Batman but also provided some small but fundamental details on the TV series that will accompany him and which will air on HBO Max.

Reeves has in fact confirmed that while the events of The Batman take place in the second year of activity of Bruce Wayne in the role of Batman, played as we all know from Robert Pattinson, the still untitled TV series will take place during Batman's first year in business.

Beyond this preliminary information, unfortunately Reeves has not unbalanced himself on the casting, nor on the filming or duration of the series. Fans obviously hope that one of the sources of inspiration for the series is Gotham Central, the seminal comic series by Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker.
