The latest flick from Warner Bros.'s so-called MonsterVerse is also affected, Godzilla vs. Kong. It was supposed to start in spring 2020, but was then postponed several times due to the pandemic. But now the film has been showing in many cinemas in the USA and partly in other countries for almost a week. In the United States, the strip generated sales of around 32 million US dollars on the first weekend, and in the first five days the total even amounts to around 48.5 million US dollars. This exceeded expectations - Godzilla vs. Kong made the most successful film release since the beginning of the pandemic. Previously, Wonder Woman held this title in 1984.

The unexpected success is due, among other things, to the fact that the USA is making very rapid and successful progress with the vaccination campaign. As a result, many cinemas in the country can open again and ever larger parts of the population are taking advantage of the offer. Still, the theatrical release is amazing, as Godzilla vs. Kong was released on the same day on streaming provider HBO Max, at no extra cost. The film is available there for a month. Industry experts see the start of the monster film as a positive sign for the cinema and film industry and expect strong business in the summer, when more and more cinemas open again around the world. Thanks to the great success of Godzilla vs. Kong, nothing should stand in the way of other films in the MonsterVerse series.
