The review annual corporate security programs showed that the costs dedicated to protecting Zuckerberg and his family increased in 2020 also due to travel protocols dictated by the pandemic situation in which the world population finds itself. Another reason that caused Zuckerberg's security costs to rise was the heated political climate during the 2020 election season and the platform's decisions against former President Donald Trump.

The statement delivered reads that “the Compensation, Nomination and Governance Committee believes these costs are appropriate and necessary in light of the threats and the fact that Mr. Zuckerberg has requested to receive only $ 1 of annual salary without receiving any payment of bonuses, stock bonuses or other incentive payments ". Likewise, the company says, Facebook's security services have increased their work of personal protection of top management.
