Tesla, construction of a new Gigafactory in India underway?

Tesla

The development plans of the Tesla car manufacturer are constantly expanding despite the pandemic from Covid-19 affecting the most varied sectors, including the automotive sector. Despite this, Elon Musk's next goal seems to be to build a new plant in India in order to expand its production of electric vehicles.

According to rumors, Tesla is planning to build a new one. plant on Indian soil, which once started would inevitably be useful for entering one of the fastest growing markets in the world. A recent tweet published, and promptly deleted, by the head of state of Karnataka Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa, seemed to indicate that the construction plans of the future plant would soon get underway in Bengaluru with the timely commissioning of a dedicated research and development. It cannot be ruled out that Tesla's number one wants to evaluate costs and benefits before launching the new site. If we refer to the data released, currently, the electric cars sold in 2019 are about 3,400 compared to the 1.7 million traditional vehicles registered in the same period.

In this regard, however, neither the US company Tesla nor the office of the prime minister of the state of Karnataka responded to requests from Reuters to release further details and comment on the matter. It is assumed that the American manufacturer will begin with the introduction of its models and then continue with the launch of a local production line. However, the first model to arrive on the Indian market could be the Model 3 currently on sale for over 61,000 euros.

It is important to reiterate that today the Indian car market is characterized by the presence of brands such as Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Mahindra and in recent years new electric vehicles have been launched especially thanks to the incentives promoted by government. Not surprisingly, the goal of the city of New Delhi seems to be to drastically reduce the country's dependence on fossil fuels and we do not rule out that Tesla may become yet another American giant to bet on India.
