Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 becomes a NAS with this project
The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 introduced some pretty cool features for building projects based on the world's most popular Single Board Computer. In fact, remember that the device is equipped with the same System on Chip as Raspberry Pi 4, but has a different form factor, introduces a PCIe 1x connector and Tensorflow processing units and is available in 32 variants with prices starting from only 25 $. These options allow you to carry out some pretty useful projects, including that of Wiretrustee, who created a carrier board with space to accommodate four SATA hard drives in order to create a home NAS.

The drives are connected to a Marvell 88SE9215 SATA-to-PCIe interface. Right now, Wiretrustee has been testing SATA ports and in a Reddit post talked about its progress by including the speeds it achieved, which is around 220MB / s.
Instead of making a card with a larger footprint, it's it was cleverly chosen to insert the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 on the underside of the carrier board. The board has 12V power connectors and a header for a 4-pin 12V fan, useful for providing fresh air to both the Raspberry Pi and the hard drives. An LED control board, separate from the motherboard, shows the activity of the unit and provides the power and reset buttons.
