After Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters established who is the most blatant beast of all (the answer can be found in the name of the film), in the sequel Godzilla vs. Kong, a new challenger now claims the title: For the first time In the history of the divided cinematic universes, Godzilla and King Kong are given a stage by a large Hollywood studio for their competition. Warner Bros., the company that unleashed Superman and Batman, pays the expenses when the most famous monkey since the chimpanzee from Our Charlie crosses the Pacific to knock his fists around the ears of Japan's greatest freeman.

The plot is very simple: Godzilla has apparently turned against humanity since his victory against Ghidorah and is wreaking havoc with his atomic breath wherever he appears. Maddison (Millie Bobby Brown) and her father (Kyle Chandler), together with the new characters Bernie (Brian Tyree Henry) and Josh (Julian Dennison), try to find out what could have moved him to this terror campaign. At the same time, the team around geologist Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgård) carts the giant ape King Kong from his home country Skull Island to the mainland on an aircraft carrier to send him into battle against Godzilla. The scientists receive unexpected help from the deaf and mute little girl Jia, who has developed a bond with Kong and can communicate with him. Demiàn Bichir, Eiza Gonzàlez, Zhang Ziyi and Rebecca Hall can be seen in larger supporting roles as well as the Japanese star Shun Oguri, who as the son of Ken Watanabe's Dr. Ishirō Serizawa from Godzilla (2014) will perform.



Godzilla vs. Kong: Trailer for the monster mega mashup. The plot and characters don't really matter if the title is Godzilla vs. Kong. This seems to be thankful to whoever cut the trailer. So the individual plot points are only roughly outlined before we get a foretaste of the actual monster brawl. The giants piss themselves off in the trailer for a massive hip-hop song by rapper Chris Classic, which underlines both the undeniable main event character of the argument and the ridiculousness of the concept.

Hidden another cult monster in the trailer?

In addition to extremely suitable music and suitable extreme fight scenes, the trailer also contains references to a possible third opponent (first discovered by Screenrant), which in the end will probably lead to the obligatory alliance between the two opponents.

At one point you can see that a display is being played on the computer screen behind Shun Oguri's figure, the outline of which is strongly reminiscent of the shape of Mechagodzilla. The metal villain is said to be briefly recognizable beforehand at one point, but this cannot be confirmed precisely because the entire circumference of the figure in question is covered by blown dust.

An appearance by Mechagodzilla, in this version made by human hands, would make perfect sense given the events of the final installment, King of the Monsters. For example, villain Alan Jonah (Charles Dance) had the remains of King Ghidorah recovered in a credits scene. A mechagodzilla based on the skeleton of Godzilla's greatest adversary would be a conceivable and equal adversary for the two title characters.

Godzilla vs. Kong will be shown in the United States on March 26th in cinemas and on HBO Max at the same time will. No release date has yet been announced for Germany. The spectacle should be seen, however, if the trailer is to be believed "only in the cinema".
