Apple, a benchmark reveals the existence of a new iMac
A mysterious system that includes an Intel Core i9-10910 CPU (codenamed Comet Lake) and an AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT video card with 65GB of RAM has been spotted in the popular Ashes of the Singularity benchmark database. According to the data, it could be the prototype of a future next-generation iMac from Apple.
We already told you about the Core i9-10910 several months ago, stating that it could be a processor made exclusively for Apple. The chip has eight cores, sixteen threads and has a base frequency of 3.6GHz capable of reaching 5GHz in Turbo Boost. The Core i9-10910 also offers a configurable TDP from 95W to 125W, which further demonstrates that this is a CPU meant for compact systems, just like an iMac. The chip is about 10% faster than its closest sibling, the Core i9-10900, according to previous results spotted on Geekbench 5.
The most interesting thing found on the Ashes of the Singularity benchmark is the presence of the dedicated GPU Radeon Pro RX 5700 XT, until today still not officially announced. Also given the situation of the processor, it cannot be ruled out that it is a product designed specifically for this new iMac. If we had to guess, the Radeon Pro 5700 XT could simply be a Pro variant of the 5700 XT with a lower TDP. As for the benchmark results, the Core i9-10910 system achieved an average frame rate of 41.7fps. However, we point out that the resolution used is unknown, so we do not have enough data to make an accurate comparison with another GPU.
Obviously, pending official confirmation from Apple, this information should only be taken as rumors. Many, especially after the release of the first devices equipped with the M1 chip, such as MacMini, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, hoped to see the first iMac this year with a completely renewed design and equipped with the second generation of Apple SoC designed for notebooks. / desktop, but more models still linked to Intel CPU and AMD GPU will probably be released.
On Amazon you will find the 5K iMac with Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD at an attractive price.
