Menlo Park had to disable these features due to the new rules on the use of data applied in the countries of the European Union. Specifically, these are those contained in the European Electronic Communications Code (Eecc) which will come into force from 21 December 2020. These services are those that allow users to exchange content even without the need to have a telephone number, which is why which limitations affect Messenger and Instagram and not WhatsApp.

According to Facebook, most of the deactivated services will return "very soon". Despite this, a spokesperson pointed out that in any case "it takes time to rebuild the products so that they work seamlessly for people and that they also comply with the new regulations".
