Europe too designs its internet from space
A consortium of companies is launched to study the launch of a satellite network to ensure high-speed connections even in remote areas

The European Commission has who to do this loved by the likes of Airbus, Arianespace, Eutelsat, Hispasat, Ohb, Orange, Ses, Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space to start a first phase of study of the project. A broadband satellite connectivity has the ability to guarantee total coverage even for the most remote and difficult areas or not convenient to connect with other technologies.
The study phase will last one year and will cost 7.1 million euros. The new satellite program will add to the Copernicus and Galileo projects already started. The project will rely on the European Union's Govsatcom program, designed for the pooling and sharing of satellite services. It will guarantee a level of reliability, resilience and security currently not available on the market thanks to the EuroQci initiative that promotes research in the field of quantum cryptography. The study will also evaluate the role of 5G communications satellites by evaluating their interoperability and studying ways to evolve the technology already in use towards that to be used in the 6G network.
