Over 20 agreements have been signed with the main universities in the country for the supply of over 200,000 data SIMs and LTE / Wi-Fi modems to students. The project responds to the need to limit travel due to the Covid-19 emergency and aims to facilitate students and their families in the use of courses and in the use of digital services offered by universities.
Agreements consist in the supply of more than 200,000 SIMs with differentiated data profiles by TIM to universities at favorable conditions and the rental of as many LTE / Wi-Fi modems that the universities can then allocate to students free of charge based on income or regularity of study courses. TIM states that these agreements will be followed by others in the near future.
Among the Institutes that have decided to take part in the initiative are: University of Eastern Piedmont University of Turin University of Genoa University of Insubria University of Pavia University of Padua University of Iuav of Venice University of Udine University of Ferrara University of Magna Graecia of Catanzaro University of Modena and Reggio Emilia University of Bologna University of Florence Sapienza University of Rome University of Sannio University of Salerno University of Basilicata University of Calabria University of Parma University of Palermo The Regional Agency for the Right to University Education of Basilicata and the Magna Graecia University Foundation of Catanzaro also join the initiative.

For some time, TIM has started important projects and collaborations with the main universities with the aim of supporting technological research and new talents. Alongside about 30 excellent partners, moreover, TIM promotes the development of digital culture and skills through the Digital Risorgimento Program with the aim of bridging the digital divide in society ", TIM wanted to remember in the press release.
An initiative that is certainly commendable and that will not burden the pockets of Italian families or students who are already going through an extremely difficult period due to the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic that has been with us for almost a year now.
In a country where high-speed data connectivity covers areas not reached by the wired internet connection (or reached at insufficient speeds), the initiative will certainly be able to facilitate the use of online lessons in streaming and download of audio, video and textual material made available by professors and universities to their students.
