We Are Who We Are

Luca Guadagnino takes us into the lives of the young people who populate the US military base located in Chioggia, in 2016. The director of the Oscar-winning film Call Me With Your Name throws a further eye on adolescent existence through the Sky Original TV series We Are Who We Are, produced for HBO and Sky Atlantic. Aired from 9 October, this is an eight-episode mini-series which, compatibly with the subject matter, includes a cast made up of both Italian and American performers.

We Are Who We Are tells of young people who gravitate around the US military base Caserma Pialati, near Chioggia: the children of the soldiers who are there, but also those who live in the small Venetian town. Set in a period before Donal Trump's elections in America, Guadagnino's mini-series closely follows Fraser, son of the new commander, Sarah, who moved to the base with him and his partner; and Caitlin, who has been living there for some years with her family since her father is stationed there.

A deep bond develops between the two teenagers. An encounter that overwhelms them and upsets their worlds: that of Fraser, a restless young man who is catapulted into a completely new place and environment, and that of Caitlin, perfectly integrated into the community that surrounds her. We Are Who We Are is an all-round exploration of the world of youth through the lens of the bond between the two protagonists of the mini-series, created with a unique and careful cut that goes beyond the usual "teen drama" and bears the unmistakable signature of Guadagnino. Romulus

A TV series created by Matteo Rovere, consisting of ten episodes, set in the 8th century BC. Its peculiarity? It was shot entirely in protolatin and it is possible to watch it (with subtitles in Italian) listening to the ancient language. The director of Il Primo Re, the 2019 film that earned the David di Donatello through his reinterpretation of the myth of Romulus and Remus, once again brings to the screen the origins of the foundation of Rome with his Romulus.

The Sky Original TV series has aired since November 6 and was produced by Sky, Cattleya and Groenlandia. It follows the stories of three young people: Yemos, an heir to the throne (played by Andrea Arcangeli), the priestess Ilia (Marianna Fontana) and Wiros, a slave who has to face trials among the dangers of the woods (Francesco di Napoli). The three protagonists of Romulus, in their passage from adolescence to adulthood, will discover that they have the power to change not only their own destiny, but also that of an entire world that will thus reap the fruits of their actions.

Romulus is the story, therefore, of a historical moment which, between reality and myth, marks the beginning of a profound change for the Western world. A journey of discovery to the roots of civilization, created by Matteo Rovere who also directed the first episodes. Furthermore, two novels have been taken from Romulus, the first of what is destined to be a trilogy aimed at expanding the aspects that have passed into the background in the TV series: Romulus: The Blood of the Wolf and Romulus: The Queen of Battles , written by Luca Azzolini.

The Manuscript of the Witches

From January the catalog of the Sky Original TV series has been enriched with a new title: The Manuscript of the Witches (A Discovery of Witches), a Bad Wolf and Sky Productions production. Available on demand, the eight-episode fantasy series comes to us from England and is taken from Deboarh Harkness's Trilogy of Souls.

A product of great interest for its mixture of the fantastic and the real, magic and rationality , sometimes contaminated by comedy and romanticism. The Manuscript of the Witches is in fact a TV series centered on Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer), a researcher at the University of Oxford who, during her studies, finds a very old manuscript in the Bodleian library. The manuscript in question belongs to a hidden past made of magic from which Diana herself comes, a witch who has denied her true nature: a world in which there are creatures such as demons and vampires and it will be precisely one of these to help the protagonist to protect the manuscript and find out the truth about it. This is Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode), a vampire who has lived for fifteen hundred years and who will accompany Diana on her journey of magical discovery and danger.

The Witches' Manuscript is available on Sky with its first season , but if you let yourself be enchanted by this TV series that has already conquered a large audience, fear not: a second season has already been announced, with a teaser trailer. The release date is unfortunately still unknown, however we advise you to immerse yourself in the adventures of Diana and Matthew, the witch and the vampire protagonists of this fantastic story.

Riviera

Two seasons already available for viewing and a third coming on November 25th, for the thriller that kept the audience glued to the TV screen: it is Riviera, a Sky Original TV series produced by Sky in association with Altice Studios behind the direction of Oscar winner Neil Jordan. An engaging production that, since 2017, has gathered a large number of fans from Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany and Austria.

Why? For its ability to mix adventure, drama and thriller in one package, against the backdrop of the luxurious and glamorous French Riviera. The series follows in the footsteps of the protagonist Georgina Clios, played by Julia Stiles: she is an American art curator and is married to the collector Constantine Clios (Anthony LaPaglia), but an event totally upsets her existence. The husband, in fact, is killed while on board an exploding yacht and, while the investigators lean towards a simple accident, Georgina begins to investigate following the trail of the murder.

The woman, however, he will not only have to deal with this tragedy, but also with Constantine's family: ex-wife Irina (Lena Olin) and children Adam (Iwan Rehon), Christos (Dimitri Leonidas) and Adriana (Roxane Duran). A dangerous investigation in the frame of the Côte d'Azur that will lead Georgina to the discovery of dark secrets, even about her husband.

Riviera is made up of two seasons of ten episodes each and will soon arrive on Sky Atlantic with a third season which will include eight episodes instead. If you are looking for an original thriller that can fully capture your attention, Riviera could be for you.
