Opel Monza, new electric crossover coming?
Opel would seem to be fascinated by the idea of bringing a new 100% electric SUV to the road, reintroducing the name of a past model.

According to reports from the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, Opel would be willing to revise the name of its iconic Monza model in order to bring a new all-electric crossover to the market. The vehicle could be based on the eVMP platform of the PSA brand unveiled last summer, and therefore capable of offering great performance typical of a sports car. We are therefore talking about a sports crossover that could arrive on the automotive market around 2024.

In detail, the widespread rumors speak of a 4.90-meter car based on the eVMP, a new platform created for all-wheel drive systems and four-wheel drive up to 250 kW, which allows the integration of battery packs from 60 to 100 kWh with a range from 400 to 650 km (WLTP). The power of the new Monza could reach 400 hp.

Opel would therefore confirm the desire to optimize its range of cars to bring to market. A goal that would make all the latest generation vehicles able to move with zero emissions. A choice and a precise strategy which, inevitably, seems to be focused on the development of technologies necessary for electric mobility even on models with a sporty character.

Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller has indeed emphasized that sports cars should play an important role in the German brand again, expressing the desire to bring sports cars back to the brand, not only with the new flagship Insignia GSi just introduced.

“We also want to transfer the theme of sportsmanship into the future. Regardless of what the vehicle will be called, one thing is clear: mobility has to be fun, it has to appeal to the heart and not just the brain. It should be emphasized that this is particularly important for what is the new electro mobility ".
