The RTX 3070 outperforms the RTX 2080 Ti even in Ashes of the Singularity
As you surely already know, the launch of the GeForce RTX 3070 is scheduled for next October 29th. NVIDIA has promised similar performance to the top of the range GeForce RTX 2080 Ti at an extremely low price point, and the latest leaked benchmarks prove that the chip maker was not exaggerating.

Indeed, as spotted by the well-known Twitter user @_rogame, some tests performed on the same configuration, but changing graphics card from time to time, have appeared in the Ashes of the Singularity benchmark database. Specifically, these are the GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 2080 Ti and, due to the methodology used, the results should be comparable. However, it's unclear whether all three graphics cards were Founders Edition or custom models. If not, the results are probably not 100% reliable, as custom variants often offer factory overclocking.

Surprisingly, the GeForce RTX 3070 is not much slower than the GeForce RTX 3080, as the latter was only 12.7% to 20.3% faster.

With 5,888 CUDA cores and 8GB of memory GDDR6, the GeForce RTX 3070, based on the Ampere architecture. it comes with a base clock of 1,500 MH z and a boost clock of 1,725 MHz. The 14Gb / s memory runs on a 256bit memory interface to provide bandwidth of up to 448GB / s.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, based on the Turing architecture, is equipped with 4,352 CUDA Cores and 11 GB of GDDR6 memory, has a base clock of 1,350 MHz and a boost clock of 1,545 MHz. memory remains the same (14Gb / s), the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti has a wider interface (352 bits) which brings the theoretical maximum bandwidth to 616GB / s.

However, the GeForce RTX 3070 is more energy efficient. The 220W TDP is a welcome improvement over the previous GeForce RTX 2080 Ti's 250W. The preliminary results seem promising, but the synthetic benchmarks do not allow us to get an idea of the general picture. For that, we will have to wait a few more days for more in-depth tests.
