PS5 imposes a revolution for the controller, but only in Japan
Today, a series of videos have finally been released (which you can easily find collected in our dedicated article) on PS5, the next generation console from Sony Interactive Entertainment. In addition to gameplay footage, however, a series of articles in Japanese have been released on the console. Thanks to them we can discover a series of innovations dedicated to the console, including a small (but big, trust me) revolution for the DualSense controller, which will be valid only for Japan.
What are we talking about? The confirmation button for an action on PS5 will now be the X and not the O. If you are confused about the matter, it means that you don't know that in Japan the confirmation button has always been the circle, while the cancel button has always been the cross. In the West, however, it has always been the opposite. This means that for us Italians there is no change, but the impact of Sony's choice should not be underestimated.
A little megaton, especially for Japanese players: the confirm button on PS5 will be X instead of ◯ going forward https://t.co/poWzBa4sUc pic.twitter.com/XqtnAlPTSm

We don't believe there will be a real effect on sales: no one would not buy the console for a simple key flip, after all, but it has great significance in terms of image. PS5 is an increasingly western console, unlike Nintendo which imposes the eastern structure in the west (in fact, the A for confirmation is the button on the right, while the B for cancellation is the button at the bottom).
We know that the fixed console market in Japan is not the biggest, mobile and handheld consoles remain the most important, but nonetheless it is a serious message: Japan must adapt to an international PlayStation.
Let's assume that it will be possible to remap the keys freely, so maybe many will reverse O and X to return to their comfort zone.
Tell us, what do you think? If something like this happened in the West, would it bother you?
You can find PS5 on Amazon Italy. You can also pre-order Demon's Souls, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion.
