Operating systems market: on Windows, down Linux
New monthly appointment with the statistics that photograph the market share attributed to the various operating systems in the desktop and laptop sector. The numbers are those updated at the end of September, detected and published by NetMarketShare considering all the fixed and portable computers in circulation globally.

What emerge is more than one percentage point growth for Windows while the share attributed to Linux slips from what emerged just a few weeks ago. The slice attributed to macOS, which will soon see the arrival of the new Big Sur version, is substantially unchanged. The same goes for Chrome OS.

Windows 88.32% (+ 1.34%); macOS 9.72% (+ 0.17%); Linux 1.47% (-1.22%); Chrome OS 0.42% (+ 0.04%).

Focusing on individual releases, the leap forward of Windows 10 stands out, most likely linked to updates from previous editions. NetMarketShare statistics show growth also for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 which reverses the trend recorded in recent months.

Windows 10 61.26% 60.57% (+ 0.69%); Windows 7 22.77% (+ 0.46 %%); macOS 10.15 5.11% (+ 0.08%); Windows 8.1 2.99% (+ 0.30%); macOS 10.14 1.91% (-0.05%); macOS 10.13 1.29% (+ 0.03%); Windows XP 0.78% (unchanged); Windows 8 0.43% (-0.10%).
