Moon Knight: Oliver Jackson-Cohen still interested in the role
Last year, Marvel Studios formalized the addition of Moon Knight to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and announced a series dedicated to him coming to Disney +. Since then, the studio has maintained absolute secrecy with regards to casting, and officially the role of the protagonist has not yet been decided.
In the meantime, the fans have dedicated themselves to a toto-casting and a few months ago the community has been very supportive of the prospect of seeing Oliver Jackson-Cohen as the protagonist. The actor was caught up on Twitter by this news, and was rather taken aback to read the fervor of the fans. Disappointed above all because he honestly admitted that he does not know the character of Moon Knight at all, despite having specified that he would love to play a superhero from the Marvel universe.
On the occasion of an interview dedicated to the promotion of the film The invisible man when asked for a comment about it and his comment was:
“I've heard about it, yes! I don't understand what a Moon Knight is. [laughs] Every time I open Instagram I see everywhere: "MOON KNIGHT!" And I say, "It's great and thank you, but I don't know what it is!" Nobody called me… I'd like to be a Marvel superhero. Would be a dream. Tell all your viewers to make themselves heard outside the Marvel venue!
To date, Marvel has not yet made official the face of Moon Knight for its series. Last December, journalist and influencer Daniel Richtman spread the rumor that he saw Daniel Radcliffe as a possible candidate for the role, but it was never confirmed. Also because according to a rumor, Marvel is actually looking for a face suitable to play a character, that of Marc Spector, natively Jewish.
Oliver Jackson-Cohen recently reiterated that he would be very interested in filling the role, suggesting how in the meantime he has worked to fill his character's "cultural gap", and commenting:
“Twitter is a true encyclopedia. I was very lucky that people educated me well about Moon Knight and the Marvel world. My honest answer is that I have no idea, no one called me for this role, but, once again, I stick to what I said: Moon Knight sounds like a really, really fascinating character, and I'd love to get my hands on it. You never know, right? "
Although Moon Knight is one of the most beloved characters among Marvel Comics fans, it cannot be said to be among the most commonly popular. The man behind the mask is Marc Spector, the son of a rabbi with a past in the army and later a mercenary. During an expedition to an archaeological site in Egypt he is mortally wounded, at which point he receives a vision in which the Egyptian moon god Khonshu offers him another chance to live as his champion on Earth; Marc accepts and falls into the white Moon Knight costume becoming a vigilante. What makes this antihero particularly interesting are not only the powers and abilities he gets from the god of the moon, but above all the fact that he is afflicted with a dissociative identity disorder. Each of its three personalities has its own distinctive identity. His inner doubts are so deep and extensive that he has repeatedly questioned that his heroic crusade is nothing more than a self-inflicted illusion. raised shortly, as filming on the series is expected to begin on November 16. The showrunner will be Jeremy Slater, author of The Umbrella Academy among other things, who will be joined in the screenplay by Beau DeMayo, who recently worked on The Witcher series.
