Checkmate: crackdown on child pornography
The operation conducted by the Postal Police has been baptized Checkmate, which at the end of a long investigation allowed to dismantle a network dedicated to the exchange of material related to child pornography. The result achieved is thanks to the work carried out by undercover agents in Italy and abroad.
According to what is read in the authority's statement, the perpetrators relied on "systems of anonymization (TOR, VPN) and encrypted messaging services to exchange photos and videos of a child pornography nature, categorized on the basis of age, sex and ethnicity criteria, with gruesome contents of child abuse, including infants, some of whom are victims of sadistic practices ". Also identified three victims of abuse.

The Catania District Attorney coordinates it with over 100 operators engaged in carrying out searches in the provinces of Bolzano, Brescia, Catania, Chieti, Como, Lecco, Milan, Naples, Parma, Pisa, Rome, Savona, Sassari, Turin, Treviso and Varese as well as in some foreign cities.
