VMware optimizes Kubernetes with new versions of vSphere, vSAN and Cloud Foundation
VMware announced important changes to help customers further accelerate their application and infrastructure modernization initiatives. New versions of VMware vSphere 7 Update 1, VMware vSAN 7 Update 1, and VMware Cloud Foundation 4.1 optimize customer adoption of Kubernetes and support stateful applications with new developer-ready capabilities, improving scalability and operations.
VMware also announced the capabilities of Tanzu's package portfolio to address the most common scenarios customers encounter in their modernization efforts. “A year ago, we made a commitment to support our customers in being successful at every stage of their application and infrastructure modernization journey,” said Raghu Raghuram, Chief Operating Officer, Products and Cloud Services, VMware. br>
«Today we take it one step further to unlock the potential of Kubernetes for hundreds ofa> thousands of VMware vSphere customers. Our new solutions help simplify the adoption of Kubernetes and provide the capabilities needed to help customers achieve their modernization goals. ”
Over the past year, VMware has provided a comprehensive software stack that enables customers to develop new modern apps and modernize existing ones. At VMworld 2019 US, VMware unveiled the Tanzu portfolio and Project Pacific technology preview for re-architecture of vSphere on an open platform that uses the Kubernetes APIs.
In March 2020, VMware introduced the Tanzu portfolio for modern applications. Additionally, VMware built the first phase of Project Pacific with VMware Cloud Foundation 4 with Tanzu, which provides a hybrid cloud infrastructure with consistent management for both VM-based and container-based applications.
VMware is now building the next phase of Project Pacific with new product releases to help customers adopt Kubernetes quickly. VMware vSphere with VMware Tanzu will provide hundreds of thousands of vSphere customers around the world with an easy way to get started using Kubernetes and modernize the 70+ million workloads running on vSphere. Users will be able to leverage existing investments in technology, tools and skill sets to rapidly set up and provision Kubernetes clusters to support modern applications.
Specifically, vSphere with Tanzu will allow you to configure the Kubernetes infrastructure of enterprise level with their existing network and lock or archive files in under an hour. This includes the ability for customers to extend vSphere Distributed Switch support for Kubernetes clusters. vSphere with Tanzu will also allow you to implement NSX Advanced Load Balancer Essentials (with the option to upgrade to Enterprise Edition) or choose your own L4 load balancing solutions.
Using VMware vCenter Server, customers will be able to deploy Kubernetes clusters in minutes, provide role-based access and assign capabilities to developers. Integration with VMware Tanzu allows administrators to manage Kubernetes in a consistent and compliant manner, providing developers with self-service access to the IT infrastructure.
