There are now 10,000 ATMs for Bitcoin in the world
Cryptocurrencies are among us, even in the real world. You can't touch them, they don't have a physical counterpart like cash for traditional coins, but the transactions that travel on their blockchains are now manageable by over 10,000 ATMs globally, at least for Bitcoin. The symbolic milestone was crossed this week.

Bitcoin: 10,000 branches in the world

The number of branches (source Statista) has been growing significantly over the last few years as it can be observe in the graph below, registering a real surge from the end of 2019 to today.



The last data reported is updated at the beginning of September: 9,521. In recent weeks, a further acceleration to the point of breaking through the 10,000 unit ceiling. The United States dominates with over 7,955 positions, followed at a safe distance by Canada with less than 900 (to be precise 877). Crumbs to the rest of the world.

While the growth trend is recorded a little in everything the world, some countries are an exception: this is the case of Austria which has gone from 244 in September 2019 to the current 149. According to the Coin ATM Radar site in Italy there are 69 of which 13 in Milan and as many in Rome.

Almost all of the branches (10,062 out of 10,067) are able to manage the exchange in Bitcoin. Furthermore, 6,723 support Litecoin and 5,932 Ethereum, two other cryptocurrencies among the best known and used.
