Steam: AMD grows 3% in 5 months, RTX 2000s have only 11% of the market
Like every month, Steam analyzes the habits of its users. The latest survey on the hardware used by its users shows that AMD is booming, having grown by 3% in 5 months. From the point of view of GPUs, however, Nvidia's dominance continues: it is a pity that its GTX 2000 series has "only" 11% of the market.
This is one of the reasons that pushed the giant of technology to present on the market the RTX 30, defined as the greatest generational leap in the history of GeForce. The market penetration of the previous generation of cards, in fact, is rather disappointing given that it settles at around 11% of the total. That is what the GTX 1060s alone did (11.18%).
Nvidia, therefore, hopes to persuade GTX 900 and 1000 users to change their card by guaranteeing exceptional performance. The first non-Nvidia card is the Radeon RX 580 with around 2% of the market.
From the GPU point of view, you can see the excellent work done by AMD to make its offer more competitive: its CPUs are mounted on 25% of PCs with Steam, 3% more than in April, when they were 21.7%. In March 2019, the odds were Intel at 82% and AMD at 18%.
When it comes to virtual reality, Oculus Rift S is the most popular headset with 23.02% market share, followed HTC Vive at 21.46% and Valve's Index at 15.55%.
Ultimately, then, the average Steam user has a processor with 4CPU, an 8GB GTX 1060, 16GB of RAM and plays in 1080p .
