Moving the Barcelona event to 28 June - 1 July 2021 allows the GSMA to contend with external circumstances related to COVID-19.

The Mobile World Congress will restart from the courage of GSMA
In the first days of February, still not being able to imagine the extent of the emergency that would have hit Europe in a few weeks and the whole world, we were on these pages commenting on the guideline that forbade the handshake on the occasion of that Mobile World Congress 2020 that would not go on stage. Fortunately, we add, considering it a courageous and far-sighted choice, a decision taken with the awareness of the economic sacrifice it would have involved. A manifestation of responsibility.The emergency and at the same time the stimulus for a forced change that has also and above all overwhelmed the events industry, called upon to reinvent itself by adopting methods and dynamics until recently too often considered a substitute for a face-to-face meeting, for that handshake that perhaps no longer seems so essential today.
MWC 2021 will take place, in one way or another. Perhaps among the pavilions of the Fira Barcelona that welcomed us for several years, perhaps remotely in line with the rules on distancing and the dynamics of smart working. More likely both ways now that we are ready, as a passage from the press release suggests: “MWC 2021 in Barcelona will also have virtual elements”. We hope that common sense will prevail again at the top of GSMA, also and above all in relation to the Shanghai appointment which will fall more than expected.
