Microsoft Surface Duo cannot be repaired
The iFixit portal says so, which dissected the dual-screen tablet and evaluated the repairability index in just 2/10
(Photo: iFixit) Microsoft Surface Duo also passed the iFixit test bench and literally came out of it. The special double screen device was in fact disassembled in all its components by the staff of the portal specialized in the analysis of repairability, but it obtained a very low rating and a peremptory conclusion: apart from the display, it was not designed to be repaired. .This seems to be the (expensive) price to pay for a device that makes thinness and portability its strong point. As we have told you, Microsoft Surface Duo is a device with two displays that can be oriented as desired, opening up to form a large surface or folding like a book for easy transport. The only market where it has debuted so far is the US one.
(Photo: iFixit) Of course, both the back cover and the display and glass block are easily removable and replaceable, but it was honestly the minimum request. The problem iFixit has encountered is that all the rest of the hardware requires considerable effort to disassemble with the risk of doing new damage in the attempt to repair.
Batteries are stuck together and have to be disassembled in a complicated way. the usb type-c port is soldered to the motherboard and there is a very powerful glue in various points which complicates most of the attempts to fix any damage. Apart from the presence of some not very common screws in strategic points, iFixit found that the delicate and fragile oled panel is not adequately protected, but must necessarily be removed for most of the interventions, with the risk of collateral damage.
