Kotaku UK: OFFICIAL, famous site closed
In a surprise announcement, Kotaku UK has announced that it is about to be closed for good. The news came directly from the site, with a greeting from Rich Stanton, editor for the past three years. The publishing agreements, in the hands of Future Publishing, will not be renewed and will expire on 9 September 2020. No precise reasons have been given for the non-renewal of the license.
As Stanton himself tells us, the journey of Kotaku UK it started in September 2014, exactly six years ago. This is not the end of Kotaku, only its UK division. Kotaku USA will continue to operate and produce content under the control of G / O Media, which acquired Kotaku and other Gizmodo brands last year.
Stanton thanks not only all of his colleagues with whom he has collaborated in the years (Keza MacDonald, Dave 'Captain' Basch, Julian Benson, Leon Hurley, Alistair Jones, Kelly Kanayama, Laura Kate Dale, Tom Pritchard, Kimberley Snaith, Jack Tomlin and CJ Wheeler), but also the US and Australian divisions for everything the support received.
His message ends with the following words: “Finally, I would like to thank and say goodbye to our readers. I have always believed that you loved video games, had a great sense of humor and valued quality writing: these have always been our goals. I'm sorry to have to say goodbye. I hope you have enjoyed the journey here and please bring a feature of Kotaku UK with you: see video games from a different perspective. "
This is a nice message to users. We can't help but wish Stanton and the entire Kotaku UK team all the best for their future career. We are confident that Kotaku UK will remain in the hearts of many UK readers and beyond.
