INPS: from PIN to SPID, now we are
Starting from 1 October 2020, no new PIN will be issued by the Institute for access to INPS online services: you will switch to SPID. It was communicated in time and now the deadline is approaching. From February 28, 2021 it will then be up to all PAs, called to recognize the Public Digital Identity System as the only valid credential.
It is anyway there is a transition phase during which the PINs already provided can continue to be used and in which specific exceptions will be made for minors under 18, for those who do not have an identity document, for people subject to protection, curatorship or support administration. These are the words of Francesco Paorici, AgID general manager.
The transition to SPID is a fundamental challenge for the digitization of the country. INPS and the Ministry of Labor have been proactive administrations to implement this step and represent an example to which the other administrations also have the responsibility to strive.
Thus Paola Pisano, Minister for Technological Innovation and Digitization, underlined the important role that the Public System of Digital Identity can and will play in the relationship with the Public Administration and more generally in terms of a process of Digital Transformation that will come to affect every area and sector.
In the short term we have set ourselves two objectives; to increase online public services accessible via SPID from smartphones, the tool most commonly used by citizens for their communications, and to simplify citizens' obtaining of SPIDs. The development and dissemination of digital identity is part of a broad project of digitization of the country, which involves the Public Administration, citizens and businesses.
On the website of the Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale it is possible to consult the list complete with all the Identity Providers certified and enabled to issue the SPID in our country. At the beginning of September, the count of active accounts had reached 10 million.
