Game Boy: the battery-free and eco-sustainable version

Game Boy: the battery-free and eco-sustainable version
Even today, the Game Boy is a determining icon in the history of the gaming world and in the life path of the most veteran players. Furthermore, users have always had to deal with battery life when it comes to gaming in its portable mode. The famous console was first released by Nintendo 31 years ago. But what if we told you that there is a more modern redesign of the Nintendo Game Boy version, as well as environmentally friendly?

Researchers from Northwestern University and Delft University of Technology - Jasper de Winkel, Przemyslaw Pawelczak and Vito Kortbeek - have designed a portable console without battery and powered entirely by solar energy and "button mashing" - the energy produced by pressing its buttons. This console was called "Engage", is visually inspired by the Game Boy and also supports the original cartridges. The goal of this prototype is to present an alternative to the use of stylus batteries. If such a console had come out in the 90s it would certainly have saved the pockets of the parents, the poor remote controls robbed of batteries to continue playing the Game Boy and, above all, the health of the planet.
