G Suite and editing Office files on Android
Today, Google officially announces a much-awaited novelty by G Suite users: the ability to open and edit Office files directly from the Documents, Sheets and Slides applications available for Android without first having to convert them to a compatible format. A step forward for on-the-go productivity that will later also arrive on iOS.

G Suite: Edit Office files with Google's Android apps

The functionality replaces QuickOffice, an application acquired in 2012 for this purpose and until now also known as "Office Compatibility Mode". These are the compatible formats: .doc, .docx, .dot for Word, .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlt for Excel, .ppt, .pptx, .pps and .pot for PowerPoint. Here are the main features introduced by the update.

Allows editing, adding comments and collaboration on Microsoft Office files using the tools for real-time collaboration in Documents, Sheets and Presentations by Google; improves sharing options and controls by reducing the need to download and send email attachments; simplifies the workflow by eliminating the obligation to convert files. The rollout of the novelty has already been started by Google but warns it may take a couple of weeks before you can use it. In the post shared on the official blog reference is made to availability even for those with a personal account.
