Does the RTX 3080 enable the largest generational leap ever? - test
These are times of change, of transition. With the arrival of the next generation of consoles, the ambition and room for maneuver of game designers will reach a new level, and Nvidia has just unveiled its new line of RTX 3000 graphics cards, which promise the greatest. of next-gen consoles, a generation leap never seen before, doubling the performance in ray tracing. This year we had the privilege of exclusive access to the next-gen architects as well as its related hardware, but we are happy to tell you that we also had early access to the new GeForce RTX 3080. Indeed, the graphics card is here with us since last week. So the question is: how fast is it?
Disclaimer: We may show you key test results today, but there are some caveats. Nvidia has selected the games covered and opted for 4K resolution in order to completely exclude the CPU bottleneck from all test results, and graphics settings have been maxed out where possible. The games in question are Doom Eternal, Control, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield 5, Borderlands 3 and Quake 2 RTX. Furthermore, frame-rate and frame-time telemetry are only possible in the review phase, and this implies that our tests were limited to comparisons with the RTX 2080 only (the equivalent of the last generation as product name and segment of market) and the differences necessarily had to be shown in percentage points. This has forced us to get our hands on our visualization tools, but the good thing is that we can reuse this work in our future reviews.
