Windows: Microsoft announces farewell to PHP
Comes from the pen of Dale Hirt, Microsoft Project Manager working on the PHP front, the announcement that the Redmond group will not guarantee official language support in Windows starting from version 8 expected by the autumn.

PHP: stop to official Microsoft support with 8.0

PHP 7.2 has not been supported by Microsoft since last November, while PHP 7.4 will enjoy at least for another twelve months of bugfixes and for another year of updates intended to security. The latest release is 7.4.8 distributed in recent days. Meanwhile, the development of version 8.0 continues rapidly with the planned release within the year. These are the words of Hirt.

We are committed to maintaining the development of PHP on Windows for versions 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4 until they are officially supported. However, we will not guarantee it for PHP for Windows in versions 8.0 and later.

Microsoft's exit from the scene will not in any case automatically result in the lack of support for PHP 8 by Windows. In the developer community, many argue that the Redmond team has chosen to use Windows Subsystem for Linux 2. According to some, the choice makes sense with a view to developing the Azure infrastructure for the cloud.
