Kioxia announces the development of PCI Express 5.0 SSD with E3.S form factor

Kioxia has announced the development of E3.S SSDs that connect to the host system via a standard PCIe connector, just like common NVMe SSDs, graphics cards or network cards, and measure only 104.9 x 76 x 3.5mm. The company has not yet disclosed the official name of the product or disclosed any performance data, but it should have the capacity of 3.84TB. "Additional formats and options will also be supported, including E3.S thick (16.8mm) and E3.L thin" - said Kioxia in his announcement.
According to the manufacturer, E3.S SSDs could exploit up to eight PCIe 4.0 lines with a consumption of 28W and use the same key components of the recent PCIe 4.0 CM6 SSDs that the company launched last February. With this in mind, E3.S units should be equipped with an 18-channel Kioxia controller accompanied by its 96-layer TLC NAND 3D chips.
The series CM6 offers fast sequential read and write respectively of 6,200 MB/s 4,000 MB/s. With regard to the performance in input/output will exceed 1.4 million of reads IOPS and 350,000 scriptures IOPS. However, the units of CM6 are limited to four lines PCIe 4.0 devices and E3.S should, for this reason, offer better performance, because you can count on the eight lines of the PCIe 4.0.
