ARM's IoT business in the hands of SoftBank
In the future ARM will focus all its resources on the semiconductor business that has led it to play a leading role in the mobile universe so far. To this end, its activities related to the Internet of Things will be separated from the company and will end up under the control of SoftBank, a Japanese group that in 2016 acquired the British chipmaker with an economic investment quantified in over 30 billion euros.

Internet of Things: SoftBank will manage the ARM business

Only the formal go-ahead from the board of directors and the authorities is missing. The transaction, which will affect IoT Platform and Treasure Data activities, should be completed by September. The continuation of the collaboration with the IoT Services Group (ISG) team is scheduled. These are the words of CEO Simon Segars.

ARM believes there are great opportunities related to the symbiotic growth of data and computing. The experience in business management in their early stages and rapidly expanding will allow ISG to maximize its value by seizing every opportunity. ARM will be in a strong position to innovate our IP core and to provide our partners with excellent support to seize the opportunities related to computing solutions in a large number of markets.

According to a forecast formulated by ARM in August 2018, on the occasion of the acquisition of Treasure Data (one of the businesses that will end up under the control of SoftBank), by 2035 there will be a trillion of IoT devices connected worldwide for the most varied purposes.
